Zakat FAQ
Zakat purifies your wealth, uplifts the less fortunate, and strengthens the Muslim community. At IPC Ontario, Zakat is distributed to those who qualify under Islamic principles.
Zakat is 2.5% of savings and assets held for one lunar year that exceed the Nisab. Gold Nisab is approx. 85g of gold; silver Nisab is approx. 595g of silver (values fluctuate).
Zakat is due once every lunar year when wealth exceeds Nisab. Many give in Ramadan for multiplied rewards, but it can be given any time of year.
